Abstract

In this study, the effect of different concentrations of jasmonic acid on some quantitative and qualitative characteristics of Thomson Novell orange fruit under drought stress was evaluated as a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three replications at the Citrus and Subtropical Fruits Research Center in 2019. The treatments consisted of three levels of drought stress: 100% of field capacity (control), 75% of field capacity (mild drought stress), and 50% of field capacity (severe drought stress), and three concentrations of jasmonic acid (0, 100, and 200 µM). The results showed that drought stress adversely affected fruit length, diameter, and weight, while improving fruit nutritional quality by increasing total soluble solids, total phenol, total flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity. Moreover, under drought stress conditions, plants treated with jasmonic acid had higher fruit size and fruit quality (total soluble solids, vitamin C, total phenol, total flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity) compared with untreated plants. Overall, foliar application of jasmonic acid, especially at the 100 μM concentration, is recommended to reduce the negative effects of drought stress on Thomson Novell orange trees.
