Abstract

In order to evaluate some characteristics of strawberry greenhouse cultivars in organic and plant culture substrates within a soilless cultivation system, an experiment was conducted as a split-plot design based on randomized complete blocks with three replications at the greenhouse of the Isfahan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center in 2019. The main treatment was the substrate at four levels, including different proportions of vermicompost (30% and 50%) and peat moss (30% and 50%) combined with perlite. Two cultivars, Selva and Camarosa, were used as sub-treatments. The highest single fruit weight was obtained in the peat moss/perlite (50:50) and vermicompost/perlite (50:50) substrates. Substrates containing vermicompost resulted in higher anthocyanin content and TSS/TA ratio compared to those containing peat moss. The Camarosa cultivar, compared to Selva, exhibited 59.01% and 14.19% lower values in malformed fruit and TSS/TA, respectively, and 20.48% higher anthocyanin content. Regarding the interaction of treatments, the Camarosa cultivar had the highest vitamin C content in substrates containing vermicompost, while the Selva cultivar showed the highest TSS and the lowest acidity in the vermicompost/perlite (50:50) substrate. Considering production goals, nutritional importance, health benefits, market development, as well as economic efficiency and the availability of local cultivation media, planting greenhouse cultivars such as Camarosa in vermicompost substrates (30% and 50%) is recommended.
