Abstract

Hazelnut is a valuable horticultural crop that is affected by various risk factors such as temperature stresses, which reduce its production and yield. This research aimed to investigate the effect of anti-stress compounds on the activity of antioxidant enzymes in hazelnut trees under low temperature stress. The factorial experiment, based on a randomized complete block design with three replications, was conducted in the Alamut region of Qazvin Province. Hazelnut trees were sprayed four times (before leaf fall in autumn, at bud swell in winter, at cluster opening, and at full bloom in spring) with Thiofer, Bio-Bloom, HiK, salicylic acid, amino acid, and water (control). Following low temperature stress in spring, samples of male flowers, female flowers, and leaf buds were collected from the hazelnut trees. Enzyme extracts were prepared from the collected samples, and the activities of guaiacol peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase were measured. The results of this research revealed that salicylic acid, HiK, and amino acid had the greatest effect, while Bio-Bloom and Thiofer had the least effect on the induction of antioxidant enzymes in hazelnut trees. Considering the important role of these enzymes in increasing plant tolerance to various stresses such as low temperature, the application of salicylic acid, HiK, and amino acid is recommended in hazelnut cultivation areas at risk of frost injury.
